Today in News: Trump Receives Intelligence Briefing

WASHINGTON — With the GOP and Democratic conventions over, each major party candidate in the 2016 US presidential race will receive classified information in preparation for taking the Oval Office. Republican candidate Donald Trump, in particular, will receive a specialized intelligence briefing.

"I want to be clear here. This isn't a meeting to disclose top-secret information," explained a senior Defense Department official. "It's literally a briefing on intelligence. That is, the skilled use of reason."

Faced with the potential for a Trump presidency, senior leaders have developed an iPad app to teach Mr. Trump how to review and accept relevant information and apply that information to the decisions he might have to make. "We're hoping to make it fun for him, something interactive to hold his attention."

Additionally, officials from each department of the executive branch, as well as from the legislative and judicial bodies, have put together a crash course on American government. Insiders developing the course were unwilling to commit to a timeline for completion but indicated they hoped to give Mr. Trump as much time as possible with it.

Although he was unavailable for comment, Mr. Trump took to Twitter early in the day with thoughts on the briefing.

Huge news! Receiving exclusive intelligence briefing. Crooked Hillary can't be trusted with any information.

Wow! Great game developed just for me! This is really very easy. Nothing important so far. Nothing on Benghazi or Area 51!
